To: The Government of Pakistan, C/O the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
We the undersigned, strongly condemn the practices that have led to all forms of violence against women and girls in Pakistan. We will appreciate if the Government of Pakistan can effectively mobilize efforts as per National Commitments to have improved legislation and translation of gender commitments into practice in accordance with the Convention on The Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) by:
- incorporating the principle of equality of men and women in our legal system, abolish all discriminatory laws and adopt appropriate ones prohibiting discrimination against women;
- establishing tribunals and other public institutions to ensure the effective pro
tection of women against discrimination; and
- ensuring elimination of all acts of discrimination against women by persons,
organizations or enterprises.
On grounds of human rights, we propose:
- immediate and effective action be taken by the government through the implementation of rapid action task forces.
- vigilantly keep an eye on offenders of gender based violence; and
- consequently, the offenders be arrested and punished through the rigorous
enforcement of existing laws and a stringent accountability at social, economic and political level.
Further more, we urge national and international human rights bodies and other governments to join in this effort and persuade the government of Pakistan to acknowledge and honor the call of this petition. |
