  PROJECTS: Media Sensitization

In Pakistan, both the print and electronic media have started taking on a more assertive role in reflecting the changes and shifts in the society. With improvements in the quantity and quality of content, media can play a significant role in the society by questioning the violence committed against women and highlighting it as a crime against humanity, passing on the right messages and fighting the traditional intolerance against women. Instead of treating women like objects, media can raise their status within society along with their self-worth.

Involving and sensitizing the media in WRCP initiatives is also on the agenda. It includes analysis of media organizations, market forces, the overlap between media and human rights, and the problem of pluralism under market denomination. The role of media was highlighted as crucial to the issue of violence against women, both in terms of how media covers the issue, and how it may be used as a tool to help activists and the government to raise awareness and implement programs on this issue.
