Violence against women takes many shapes and forms and knows no boundaries of geography, culture or wealth. It is present in all societies throughout the world. Sexual harassment in the work place, abuse of young girls, beating of the female partner, rape, abduction, forced servitude and sexual slavery of women in war torn areas are only some of its manifestations. It is more than physical or mental abuse of an individual. It is degradation of human beings and a crime against humanity. |
